The 15th Conference on Power Distribution Networks of Serbia and the region has concluded at Kopaonik. Over 700 participants from Serbia and abroad gathered to discuss the key challenges of the energy transition – from renewable integration and prosumers, to smart metering, digitalization, electric vehicles, and energy storage.
A total of 92 technical papers were presented, with one clear message: the distribution grid must evolve in step with the energy system.
For the Western Balkans, investments of €10–15 billion will be required, while Serbia plans an energy investment cycle exceeding €14 billion by 2035 – covering generation, transmission and distribution networks, storage, and system balancing.
Digitalization, smart meters, and new technologies are no longer isolated topics – they are becoming part of an integrated system that requires real‑time management.
CIRED once again proved its value as a meeting point for distribution companies, equipment manufacturers, engineers, and researchers. Next year will mark 30 years of CIRED in Serbia.
The future of energy in the region is inseparably linked to innovation, investment, and collaboration.
